Following instructions from The Scottish Government, NHS Dumfries and Galloway has convened a committee to investigate how best to deliver spiritual care to patients in the region.
Although Dumfries and Galloway has been the last region in Scotland to follow the government guidlines it gives us the advantage of being able to draw on the successes of other regions and avoid their mistakes.
The goal of this is that all patients in the NHS whether in primary (GP) or secondary (hospital) care feel cared for on all levels- body, mind and spirit.
Scotland is the leading nation within the United Kingdom in this area and it is hoped that Dumfries and Galloway will become the leading region within Scotland.
Dr James Clark-Maxwell sits on the Spiritual Care Committee and Dalbeattie Clinic is taking part in a nationwide pilot scheme to evaluate the importance of good spiritual care in the community. This takes the form of a community listening service more information on which can be found on the whats new page.
